Enjoyment with History:

tortenrezept linzer torte

The recipe for the “Linzer Torte” is considered the oldest known cake recipe in the world. It comes from a cookbook of Countess Ann Margarita Sagramosa from 1653, which Waltraud Faissner discovered in the Stiftsbibliothek as part of her research on Linz as the European Capital of Culture 09. Many stories entwine around the origin of the name, but they cannot be historically proven. It is more likely that Linz stands as a geographical designation of origin – especially since the women of Linz already had an excellent reputation as bakers at that time. Even if the secret is never completely revealed, one thing is certain: then as now, butter, almonds, sugar, flour and fine spices are the main ingredients, whereby the characteristic redcurrant jam must not be missing.

At Jindrak, the “Original Linzer Torte” has been produced with the utmost care and craftsmanship for almost 100 years. Just like in grandfather’s time, we still bake according to traditional recipes today. Our products are not deep-frozen, but freshly produced for you every day – we only use high-quality ingredients. Order the Original Linzer Torte in our online shop and have it sent all over the world. Or try your hand as a confectioner: In our show bakery you can easily bake your own personal Linzer Torte!
